Conditions and treatments for male fertility
Couples facing infertility often begin their quest to have a baby by having the woman evaluated for infertility.  However, 50 percent of couples who are facing infertility may be dealing with male infertility, and in 30 percent of cases the male is solely responsible.

Male factor often is unrecognized and untreated
Problems with infertility are extremely common, although few men receive proper evaluation and treatment.    Individuals and couples who are dealing with male reproductive problems require the compassionate care of specially trained physicians with expertise in these conditions.

Why a sperm analysis first?
It is simple, timely and preferable to order a semen analysis first, but many doctors fail to do so because they are unsure of how to interpret the results.  Further they are not trained to recognize that this is the logical starting point.

Why see a urologist for male infertility?
A urologist is an expert in the male urological system, including the reproductive organs.  In some cases, there is an underlying disease or condition that is causing the semen to have abnormal semen parameters.  Many of these conditions are treatable through microsurgery or hormonal manipulation, with excellent results, and often can give couples the freedom to bypass expensive and invasive assisted reproductive technologies like IVF.

Sensitivity and trust
As any infertility is an extremely sensitive issue, our physicians at Chesapeake Urology Associates understand the challenges of talking and investigating male sources of infertility.  Our physicians have years of experience in evaluating and treating male infertility and provide a sensitive and compassionate environment for examination and management of male infertility.
