To help ensure the highest quality of diagnosis for our patients, Chesapeake Urology Associates has a state-of-the-art laboratory specializing in uropathology, under the direction of Dr. Tehmina Z. Ali; a fellowship-trained urologic pathologist who is nationally known in her field.

Chesapeake Urology's Uropathology Services is dedicated to the most accurate diagnosis of conditions of all the urologic organs, including prostate cancer, kidney disease and bladder cancer.

Uropathology is a unique specialization and only a few laboratories in Maryland are under the direction of specialty trained uropathologists. As more men undergo prostate cancer screening at a young age so that the disease can be caught at a very early stage, it is especially important for their tissue samples to be analyzed by an experienced uropathologist's eye.

Not only does Chesapeake Urology's Uropathology Services offer the most technologically advanced testing available and the very best pathology analysis, the turnaround time for results is fast and direct, so that patients do not have to wait for lab results to be relayed from an outside independent lab.

Tehmina Z. Ali, M.D.

Dr. Tehmina Z. Ali has unique specialty training as a uropathologist. Her broad experience at diagnosing specific oncologic conditions with an emphasis on the prostate and her outstanding credentials provide Chesapeake Urology patients with the peace of mind that they will receive the most precise urologic diagnosis available.

Dr. Ali graduated from Rawalpindi Medical College in Pakistan, following which she did intensive post graduate training at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and the University of Maryland. Trained as both a surgical and a urologic pathologist, this included a post-doctoral fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital, department of Surgery, division of Endocrinology; a post-doctoral fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital, department of Pathology, division of Cytopathology; a post-doctoral fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital, department of Pathology, division of Immunology; residency training in Anatomic Pathology at the University of Maryland Medical System; a Surgical Pathology fellowship at the University of Maryland Medical System, and a Genitourinary Pathology fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital working with world-renowned urologic pathologist Dr. Jonathan I. Epstein.

Dr. Ali also served as Assistant Professor of Pathology at University of Maryland School of Medicine and an attending pathologist at the University of Maryland Medical Center.

She has done wide-ranging research and published extensively, including numerous scientific articles, book chapters and the reference book, "Atlas of Urinary Cytopathology with Histopathologic Correlations." She served as the secretary-treasurer of the Maryland Society of Pathologists and has participated as a laboratory inspector with the College of American Pathologists. She has received honors that include "Best Attending Pathologist Teacher in Anatomic Pathology" at University of Maryland and "Excellence in Clinical Research" at The Johns Hopkins.
