Great Prostate Cancer Challenge 5K draws record crowd to support awareness, research, screenings

TOWSON, Md. - The second annual Great Prostate Cancer Challenge 5K/1 Mile Fun Walk drew nearly 2,500 people to the St. Joseph Medical Center campus Sunday in support of prostate cancer awareness, research and screenings. Building on the inaugural event, 1,500 runners and walkers participated, and doctors screened 87 men for prostate cancer as free screenings composed an important portion of this year's event and will continue in conjunction with African American churches throughout October.

Prostate Cancer Awareness Month draws local, state and national support

BALTIMORE - Governor Martin O'Malley and the State of Maryland issued the state's first proclamation in support of the Great Prostate Cancer Challenge and the efforts of Dr. Sanford J. Siegel and Chesapeake Urology Associates (CUA) to raise awareness of prostate cancer, raise funds for prostate cancer research and increase prostate cancer screening opportunities. The state's proclamation follows President Bush's commitment to prostate cancer, marking September as National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.
