Before joining Chesapeake Urology in May, 2014, Dr. Huisman had been a partner with Chiaramonte Huisman and Zorn Urology (CHZ) since 1997. Prior to joining CHZ, he served as Chairman, Department of Urology at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego. Dr. Huisman also served as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Urology at the Chicago Medical School, Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, and at the University of California at San Diego Medical School. He previously served Southern Maryland Hospital Center as both chairman of the Department of Surgery and as the vice president of medical staff. He is currently the head of the Department of Urology and a member of the Board of Directors of MedStar, Southern Maryland Hospital Center.
 
Dr. Huisman has extensive training in prostate surgery, endourology and management and treatment of stone disease, as well as the treatment of prostate cancer with minimally invasive surgery, brachytherapy and the management of overactive bladder disorders. He pioneered the techniques of radical perineal prostatectomy and brachytherapy at Southern Maryland Hospital Center.
 
He is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and was elected to the American College of Surgeons in 1990. While at the Naval Academy, he was selected as Company Commander and was a member of the Phi Kappa Alpha National Honor Society. Dr. Huisman 's Military decorations include the Navy Achievement Medal (two awards), Navy Commendation Medal and Meritorious Service Medal.
 
Dr. Huisman has been an investigator in numerous research studies and has published articles in multiple medical journals as well as abstracts and presentations at various national medical meetings.
