Chesapeake Urology continued to expand surgical services to its Summit Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs), offering patients the benefits of:
- Outpatient surgery for many procedures.
- Specially-trained surgical nurses and board-certified anesthesiologists in the ASCs.
- Private, comfortable surgical suites with state-of-the-art equipment.
- Recovery at home with physician follow-up.
Now, select kidney stone patients are able to receive a ureteroscopy in our ASC as well as PCNL procedures.
In fact, Dr. Julio Davalos, Director of Chesapeake Urology's Advanced Kidney Stone Program, performed Tubeless PCNL or PCNL surgery for removing large kidney stones in Chesapeake Urology's Maple Lawn ambulatory surgery center (ASC) in several patients in 2015.
PCNL, which stands for percutaneous nephrolithotomy, is an innovative surgical treatment for patients who have large, complex kidney stones that cannot be passed through the urinary tract. Percutaneous refers to surgery via a small incision through the skin, rather than an open, more invasive procedure. Dr. Davalos is one of the country's leading experts in tubeless PCNL. Being able to have the complex surgery as a same-day procedure allows his patients to recover at home without the nephrostomy tube in their back, which is common in traditional PCNL. As a leading expert, Dr. Davalos has been able to offer the PCNL and Tubeless PCNL procedure to select patients in the ASC.
Chesapeake Urology's 14 ambulatory surgery centers offer patients high-quality care in a comfortable, private setting. Our ambulatory surgery centers have been recognized for excellence and are certified by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care.
