In a significant step for advancing urologic cancer care in the Baltimore region, Geoffrey Sklar, M.D., joined the MedStar Health Cancer Network as Associate Director of the Weinberg Cancer Institute at Franklin Square Hospital effective July 1, 2017. Dr. Sklar, one of the leading urologic cancer specialists in the region, will also serve as the medical center’s Chief of the Division of Urologic Oncology.
In his new leadership role at Chesapeake Urology, in association with the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Cancer Institute at the MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center, Dr. Sklar is responsible for building the cancer care center’s urological oncology program.

Dr. Sklar has moved his office hours to Chesapeake Urology’s Franklin Square office, and will also see patients at the Weinberg Cancer Institute, which is also located on the campus of the Franklin Square Medical Center.
Dr. Sklar has been Chief Medical Officer for Chesapeake Urology since 2009, and he will continue in that role. He is a member of Chesapeake Urology’s Executive Clinical Team and chairs Chesapeake Urology’s Grand Rounds, the Morbidity and Mortality Committee and the Multidisciplinary Tumor Board Committee. He also serves as a liaison for the company on medical matters with outside organizations including hospitals and medical insurance groups. His other duties include physician oversight, quality assurance, and risk-management.
Dr. Sklar is recognized across the Baltimore region as an innovator in urology care, specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of kidney cancer, bladder cancer, erectile dysfunction and Peyronie’s disease. He is one of few local physicians trained to perform blue light cystoscopy, an innovative, technology-based tool that aids in precise detection and diagnosis of bladder tumors.
Prior to his role with the MedStar Franklin Square Weinberg Cancer Institute, Dr. Sklar held several high-level positions with the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center including: President of the Medical Staff, Chief of Urology, Chief of Urological Oncology, and Assistant Chief of Surgery.
