BALTIMORE, MD, MAY 2009.....Dr. Alice K. Tsao recently received The Physician Excellence Award at Baltimore Washington Medical Center (BWMC) and is in the running for Physician of the Year. She began at BWMC in October 2008 and is the first newcomer at the medical center to receive the award. She is helping to build a strong robotics program at BWMC.
Dr. Tsao is an urologist with Chesapeake Urology Associates, Baltimore, MD, and part of the medical center's robotics team.
Nominations for Dr. Tsao noted her compassion, use of current technology, exceptional service, quality patient care, respect and teamwork.
"Dr. Tsao is a great communicator in all of her interpersonal interactions including staff, patients and families," one nomination stated. "On the day of surgery, she is thorough in her discussions with her patients in regard to treatment options and plan of care. She puts them at ease at a time when they are very anxious about their procedure and potential diagnosis. Dr. Tsao always arrives early on the day of surgery to review the patient's history and interoperative plan with the robotics team members. Her ability to involve the entire team by incorporating open communications into her practice facilitates the safest possible outcome for her patient."
Dr. Tsao specializes in robotic and laparoscopy procedures for cancers of the kidney, bladder, and prostate, in addition to other procedures such as robotic pyeloplasty for UPJ obstruction and robotic sacrocolpopexy for pelvic organ prolapse. A member of the American Urological Association and the American Medical Association, Dr. Tsao received an International Volunteers in Urology Resident Scholar Award in 2005, and the Mullen Award for Outstanding Community Service (Florida) by a Medical Student in 2000.
