Dr. Robert Brookland Honored by The Maryland State Council on Cancer Control

Congratulations to Chesapeake Urology’s Robert K. Brookland, MD, FACR, FACRO, who recently was honored with the Martin D. Abeloff Award for Excellence in Public Health and Cancer Control by the Maryland State Council on Cancer Control. 

Dr. Brookland is a board-certified radiation oncologist and one of four radiation oncologists located in Chesapeake Urology’s Prostate Center.  In addition, he serves as Greater Baltimore Medical Center’s (GBMC) chair of radiation oncology and board member of the American Cancer Society (ACS).  Dr. Brookland was honored during the 21st annual Maryland State Council on Cancer Control Cancer Conference, held at the Anne Arundel Health System’s Doordan Conference Center in Annapolis, MD.

The Abeloff Award is given annually to a Marylander who has contributed to reducing the incidence, morbidity and mortality of cancer through research focused on cancer control. 

Dr. Brookland earned his medical degree at Georgetown University School of Medicine. Following his internal medicine residency, he completed his residency in radiation oncology at the University of Pennsylvania where he was an American Cancer Society Fellow and served as chief resident. 

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Brookland has served as Chairman of Professional Education for the American Cancer Society and Director of Continuing Medical Education at GBMC. Also at GBMC, he has been a member of the Institutional Review Board, the Medical Board, the Healthcare Board and was Chair of GBMC Philanthropy. Dr. Brookland has been a member of the Medical Advisory Committee for the Governor's Cancer Commission, Maryland Board of Physician Quality Assurance, and Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and has served as Chairman for the American Cancer Society divisions in Maryland.
