The Continence Center at Chesapeake Urology Achieves SRC and NAFC’s Center of Excellence in Continence Care for Women Dual Accreditation
Owings Mills, Maryland – May 24, 2022 – The Continence Center, Andrew M. Shapiro Center of Excellence, Chesapeake Urology recently achieved dual accreditation as a Center of Excellence in Continence Care for Women, recognized for providing the highest quality of care and patient safety by Surgical Review Corporation (SRC) and the National Association for Continence (NAFC).
Status as an accredited facility means that The Continence Center, Chesapeake Urology has met nationally recognized standards. Not all hospitals and surgeons seek accreditation and not all that undergo the rigorous requirements and inspection process is granted accreditation.
Surgeons of Excellence in Continence Care for Women at Chesapeake Urology include:
- Laura L. Giusto, MD
- Ellen Goldmark, MD
- Kelly Johnson, MD
- Kaiser Robertson, MD
- Victoria Staiman, MD
- Kathleen Sterling, MD
“The dual accreditation is a testament to the dedication of our entire team of providers to continence care for women and all patients,” said Dr. Giusto, Director of The Continence Center, Andrew M. Shapiro Center of Excellence, Chesapeake Urology. “Our team is committed to excellence and delivering the highest quality of care to meet and maintain the standards for re-accreditation every day. I’m very proud of what we continue to achieve on behalf of our patients at the Continence Center.”
Healthcare facilities and surgeons seeking an SRC accreditation undergo an extensive assessment and inspection process to ensure the applicant meets SRC’s proven standards and requirements. These requirements include surgical volumes, facility equipment, clinical pathways and standardized operating procedures, an emphasis on patient education and continuous quality assessment. The inspection involves all staff working in the accredited program. Inspectors educate staff on best practices to help an organization improve its care and services.
“We’re proud to recognize The Continence Center, Chesapeake Urology for their commitment to advancing and providing quality care for all patients,” said Gary M. Pratt, CEO of SRC. “This accreditation signals that this facility is among the best in this specialty and is dedicated to delivering the highest level of care possible.”
About the SRC and NAFC Partnership for Continence Care for Women
SRC has been endorsed by National Association for Continence (NAFC), the nation’s leading advocate for individuals with bladder and bowel conditions, to administer a set of standards and certification process to recognize Centers of Excellence and Master Surgeons in Continence Care for Women. This partnership builds upon SRC’s and NAFC’s existing Centers of Excellence program, which identifies facilities that meet rigorous benchmarks for training, clinical experience, resources and patient satisfaction. The goal is to help those dealing with pelvic floor dysfunction and incontinence issues find experts that have been thoroughly and independently vetted for their quality of care.
