MEET OUR STAFF

All members of the Chesapeake Urology Research Associates (CURA) team conduct research and follow Good Clinical Practices (GCPs) and ICH Guidelines. Members of our team are also certified research professionals through professional research organizations such as The Society of Clinical Research Associates (SOCRA) and The Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP). Their experience includes all phases of clinical protocols. Staff members are IATA certified and participate in educational conferences to keep abreast of new rules and regulations.

 

Ron Tutrone MDRonald F. Tutrone, Jr., M.D., F.A.C.S., CPI
Medical Director, Chesapeake Urology Research Associates

Dr. Tutrone is the Medical Director of Chesapeake Urology Research Associates (CURA) and Chief of Urology at Greater Baltimore Medical Center (GBMC). He has been the principal investigator in more than 100 clinical trials. Dr. Tutrone practices general urology and focuses on: treatment of urologic malignancies including kidney, bladder and prostate; laparoscopic treatment of renal and adrenal tumors; kidney stone treatment; urinary incontinence in men and women; and prostate disorders. Dr. Tutrone is certified by the American Board of Urology and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is the Chairman of the William E. Kalhert Endowment for Urological Research, and has been voted a "Top Doctor" by Baltimore magazine numerous times. 



Heather Thomas NEWHeather Thomas, CCRC

Heather's career in the field of Urology spans 15+ years. In 1995 Heather assisted Ronald Tutrone, M.D., in establishing this research division. Her research experience ranges from clinical to administrative. Heather is a certified research professional through the ACRP. Passion for patient care and quality research remain her primary focus.

CURA Virginia Michaels NEW

Virginia Michaels, CCRC
Research Administrator
Greater Baltimore Medical Center (GBMC) Office

Virginia has been conducting clinical research since 2005 at Greater Baltimore Medical Center and joined the CURA team in 2008. In 2010 she received her certification from the ACRP as a research professional. Virginia is committed to conducting high quality research and assisting the physicians in their care of the patients.

CURA Crystal Vaughn NEWCrystal Vaughan, CCRP
QA/Regulatory Specialist

Crystal has been conducting clinical research since 2007 and joined the CURA team in 2013. She was named QA/Regulatory Specialist in 2015. She received her clinical research certification from SoCRA and her master's degree in Clinical Research Administration. Crystal is dedicated to providing professional integrity to clinical research as well as patient care.

Rayna joined the clinical trials team in 2016. She has over six years of progressive clinical experience in Urology. Rayna is passionate about improving the quality of life for her patients through clinical research and enjoys providing them with superior care.

Renee Hammond, LPN, CCRC
Research Coordinator

Renee has been a research coordinator for 13 years in therapeutic areas such as allergy, immunology, endocrinology and urology. She joined the CURA team in April 2014. In addition to being a research coordinator, Renee has also been a nurse for over 15 years.  She strives to educate her patients about their conditions and enjoys the one-on-one time with patients that conducting research allows.

Jacki has been an active research coordinator since 2007. She has previous experience in gastroenterology and rheumatology clinical research. Jacki joined the CURA team in March 2015. She enjoys working with the patients and also the scientific contribution clinical research offers to improving healthcare and the possible quality of life for the patients.

Charlesa joined Chesapeake Urology Research Associates in 2017. Prior to joining the CURA team, she conducted women’s health research for Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She has diverse research experience, ranging from basic science to clinical. She serves as the focal point of information for clinical trial participation related inquiries for the Research Department. She is dedicated to finding suitable studies for patients, as well as raising awareness of clinical trials in the Chesapeake Urology practice and in the community.

Regulatory Specialist

Amy has over 11 years of clinical research experience and joined the research team in 2017. She has her Clinical Research certification from the Association of Clinical Research Professionals. She is dedicated to providing the most current regulatory information to the Research Department with respect to applicable federal, state, and local laws. She is proficient in the  regulations and regulatory practices related to protection of human subjects in research and compliance.

Research Administrative Assistant, Greater Baltimore Medical Center (GBMC)

Vesta assists the Chesapeake Urology Research team with all administrative needs. She is responsible for invoicing, managaing study logs, organizaing research documents, ensuring staff trainings and certifications are current, and coordinating meetings.
